Implementing a quality system and obtaining certification allows you to demonstrate to peers, publishers, and funders that you adhere to best practices. This might sound more complicated than it actually is and as part of the iRISE project, you can receive personal support for the implementation process and obtain a free certification by a third party.

Implementing the EQIPD Quality System (QS) might be less work than you anticipate, and the reward is a certificate recognizing your efforts. The implementation process is outlined in the EQIPD Toolbox, and our team offers free support to assist you. CONTACT US.

To begin, start with the self-assessment, which will help identify potential areas for improvement. This exercise will introduce you to Good Research Practice and serve as the first step toward implementing a quality system.

Next, discuss any identified gaps with your colleagues or our team. These conversations will help you think about potential solutions and how to implement them. 

Repeat this process until all gaps are addressed. This may be very fast or take some time. In any case, it is a continuous process involving the entire research group for some aspects or specific individuals for most.

If you have the feeling you are stuck at some point, please reach out again for support. The free certification in the context of iRISE can only be offered until end of 2025.

This study within the iRISE project will assess researchers’ perceptions of best practices and research climate before and after implementing the EQIPD quality system, compared to no intervention. It will also explore how socio-cultural identity affects these perceptions. Using a mixed-method survey, the study will collect quantitative and qualitative data. Outcomes include self-reported best practices and research climate, measured through proxies like data traceability, bias reduction, error management, and training.

To our knowledge, this is the first survey investigating research climate, best practices, and socio-cultural backgrounds.

The research questions we would like to answer to provide evidence on the effectiveness of a quality system:

• How does implementation of the EQIPD Quality System influence the use of best practices and research climate in research units, compared to no intervention?

• How is the research climate affected by socio-cultural identities?

The goal is to compare the research climate and implemented best practices before and after the implementation of the EQIPD quality system. The survey you have contributed to forms the baseline.

We aim to have at least 10 research units implement the EQIPD QS and achieve certification within the scope of this project. After certification, these units will complete a second survey. The results will then be compared to the initial survey feedback to assess the impact of the quality system.
