New EQIPD Certification Awarded: Congratulations to Childlight at the University of Edinburgh!

We are delighted to announce that Childlight at the University of Edinburgh has successfully achieved the EQIPD certification.

The Childlight – Global Child Safety Institute conducts primary research on the situation of children worldwide and develops influential indices that shed light on the realities children face across different regions and contexts. Their work contributes substantially to evidence based policy discussions and global awareness. Achieving EQIPD certification is a strong testament to their commitment to structured, transparent and robust research practices.

For us at the Guarantors of EQIPD e.V., this certification is particularly meaningful. When the EQIPD Quality System was originally developed within the framework of the EQIPD Consortium, the focus was largely on preclinical research, often with animal studies in mind. We were frequently asked whether such a system could be meaningfully transferred to other research domains.

The collaboration with Childlight now provides a clear and encouraging answer.

This experience demonstrates that the EQIPD Quality System is not confined to one discipline. By focusing on the research process itself from planning and documentation to data handling and transparency it proves adaptable across diverse research environments. In many ways, the fundamental principles of high quality research are more similar across disciplines than we might initially expect.

We would like to warmly thank Childlight for the constructive and inspiring collaboration throughout the implementation meetings. Special congratulations to Polly Needs and Deborah Fry for leading this achievement.

Our sincere thanks also go to Björn Gerlach who consulted Childlight during the implementation and to the assessment team, including Anton Bespalov and Christoph Emmerich, for their dedicated work throughout the process.

Congratulations again to the entire Childlight team on this outstanding milestone. We are proud to count you among the growing community of EQIPD certified research units.
